BRIEF HISTORY
Llwchwr Workmens Club was established at 8&9 High Street around September 1939 by Albert Thomas, William Griffiths and Haydn Jenkins after they received a loan from Buckley’s Brewery. It replaced the earlier Gorseinon Social Club which had previously occupied the buildings but fell afoul of the authorities and was shutdown.

The Club building is made up of several properties that date back to the late 1880s and as can be seen in the picture from the early 1960s the Club looked a lot different with a peaked roof compared to the flat roof we have now, also the entrance was on High Street and not Railway Terrace.

Over the course of 20-years between 1947 and 1967 the Club secured both the leasehold and freehold of numbers 7, 8 & 9 High Street which included the Timothy Jones shop to enable it to further expand and following some major building works in the 1970s it came to look how it does now.
